SuperScript connected to Versa M100 cannot print getting not enough virtual memory error in Windows 3.1x.

We suggest the following: Increase Virtual Memory to 20 MB permanent,

VIRTUAL MEMORY

As mentioned in Chapter 2 System Requirements ,SuperScript 6xx Windows Software requires a total of 12.5 megabytes of space, divided between your PC memory (a minimum of 4 megabytes) and your Windows virtual memory. For example, if your system has 4 megabytes of RAM, then you must allocate at least 8.5 megabytes of virtual memory. If you have 5 megabytes of RAM, then you need at least 7.5 megabytes of virtual memory, and so on. It is strongly recommended that you use permanent virtual memory, rather than temporary. You can change this through the Control Panel, following the steps described below. Also, if you are using some disk compression software such as Double Space, Windows requires that your virtual memory be setup on a non-compressed drive. If you have not already designated the desired amount of virtual memory to run SuperScript or if you wish to convert to permanent virtual memory, do that now by using the Control Panel. The instructions below assume your system has the minimum amount of PC RAM, 4 megabytes.

  1. From the Program Manager screen, double-click on the Control Panel icon.
  2. Double-click on the 386 Enhanced icon.
  3. Click on the Virtual Memory button.
  4. If the Size shown in the Virtual Memory dialog box is less than the amount you need, xxxx KB, or Type is temporary or none, then click on the Change button. Increase the size to at least xxxx KB. Select type permanent. For best performance, select 32-bit access (if it is available). Click on the OK button.
  5. Open control panel
  6. Open printers
  7. uncheck use Windows print manager
  8. click on connect
  9. uncheck fast print direct to port
  10. click ok
  11. click on setup and check Use NEC's print manager
  12. In order to make the settings effective, restart Windows by clicking the Restart button.

If Windows does not let you allocate the required amount of space, check to make sure you have enough room on your hard disk drive. If you have enough free disk space and Windows won’t let you create large enough permanent virtual memory, you may need to run a disk defragmentation utility, such as Norton Utilities sd or defrag which ships with DOS 6.0 or higher, to clean up your hard disk drive, before changing your virtual memory to permanent. In the mean time you can use temporary virtual memory instead of permanent.

NOTE: For more information on virtual memory in Windows, refer to the Microsoft Windows 3.1 User Guide.

Can the SuperScript printers be connected to multiple PC systems, through a mechanical or electronic switching device.

NEC does not recommend connecting to switching devices. The parallel port on the SperScript is a high speed bi-directional port that must be driven in real time (i.e delays). And it's very sensitive to noise and static electricity.

Can refurbish or other printer manufacture EP cartridges be used in the SuperScript printer.

No, NEC does not recommend the use of refurbished cartridges and the engine is NEC's requiring the use of NEC toner cartridges only.
