The SuperScript 1800 printer comes with 12MB
of memory, and can be upgraded to 132MB using 60ns, or faster, 72-pin EDO DRAM SIMMs. The printer has a
Controller Board with two SIMM slots for memory. The SIMM slots can be upgraded with 8MB,
16MB, 32MB, and 64MB SIMMs. If both slots are going to contain SIMMs, they must be of the
same size. The 12MB of memory that comes with your printer is in the form of 4MB
built into the controller board and 8MB installed in the SIMM slots.
Follow these steps to install the memory expansion
module.
- Remove the printer side cover and access the printer
controller board as described on page 83.
- Position the printer so you have access to the controller
board.
- Figure (A) shows the controller board and the
location of 2 SIMM slots used for printer memory.
- Locate the notch on the SIMM (B).
- Position the SIMM into a slot so that the notch is at the
bottom (C).
- Snap the SIMM into position (D).
- Use the procedure in Step 1 as guide to replace printer side
cover, 500-sheet Cassette tray, and printer cables.
- If your computer is running Windows 3.1x, 95, 98, or NT 4.0,
adjust the printer driver properties so the new printer memory size is recognized.
Typically, the adjustment is made in the Device Options tab. The See Chapter 4,
"Printer Software," for more information.
- Confirm the installation by printing a printer configuration
page as described on page 51.
